Mr Gareth Stables MBChB, FRCS (Ed) T&O
Cheshire Orthopaedic surgeon, Mr Gareth Stables, is a fully UK trained Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in knee surgery.
Gareth has the highest qualifications possible for an orthopaedic surgeon in the UK, FRCS (T&O), and is on the GMC specialist register for Trauma and Orthopaedic surgery. He is a full member of the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA), the British Association for Surgery of the Knee (BASK), the International Cartlilage Regeneration and joint preservation Society (ICRS) and the European Society for Sports traumatology surgery and Knee surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA).
Gareth specialises in; keyhole or knee arthroscopy surgery, ligament reconstruction surgery, knee osteotomy and knee replacement surgery. He has over 15 years of experience in the field having qualified with a commendation in 1998 from the University of Liverpool Medical School.
Gareth undertook his specialist training in orthopaedic surgery in Cheshire and Merseyside. It was in 2010 that he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Working at Wrightington Hospital he completed his specialist training in hip and knee surgery.
To further his interest in sports knee surgery and knee replacement surgery Gareth also completed a specialist fellowship at The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, the largest teaching hospital of its kind in Europe! Here he also developed skills in knee ligament and cartilage preservation surgery.
An accomplished surgeon, Gareth has published work in peer-reviewed journals and written orthopaedic book chapters. He has presented his research at both national and international meetings.
He is actively involved in high-quality research and is a Principal Investigator for a number of National and International multicentre clinical trials, leading to improvements in patient experience and outcomes.
At present Gareth practices at the Cheshire and Merseyside Treatment Centre, Spire Cheshire Hospital and at The Wilmslow Hospital, 52 Alderley Road, Wilmslow. He also maintains a keen interest in general orthopaedic trauma at Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
