Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon – Mr Gareth Stables MBChB, FRCS (Ed) T&O

Cheshire Orthopaedic surgeon, Mr Gareth Stables, specialises in knee surgery, and sports injuries. In particular, keyhole (also known as arthroscopic) knee surgery, ligament surgery, knee osteotomy and joint replacement surgery. He has over 12 years of experience in the field having qualified in 1998 from the University of Liverpool Medical School.

Mr Stables undertook his specialist training in orthopaedic surgery in Cheshire and Merseyside. It was in 2010 that he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Working at Wrightington Hospital Mr Stables completed a fellowship in hip and knee surgery.

To further his interest in sports knee surgery and knee replacement surgery Mr Stables undertook a fellowship at The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, the largest teaching hospital of its kind in Europe! Here he also developed skills in knee ligament and cartilage surgery.

An accomplished surgeon, Mr Stables has published work in peer-reviewed journals and made contributions to orthopaedic book chapters. He has presented his research at both national and international meetings.

He is actively involved in high quality research and is a Principal Investigator for a number of National and International multicentre clinical trials, leading to improvements in patient experience and outcomes.

At present Mr Gareth Stables practices at the Cheshire and Merseyside Treatment Centre, Spire Cheshire Hospital and at The Wilmslow Hospital, 52 Alderley Road, Wilmslow. He also maintains a keen interest in general orthopaedic trauma at Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Karen Pollitt – Practice Manager

Karen looks after the day to day running of Mr. Stables’ practice. Helping you with booking appointments right through to booking surgery and scans. Karen has a background as a Medical Secretary and Medical PA and has worked in the Lancashire Cardiac Centre, The Christie Clinic and The Wilmslow Hospital over the past 20 years.  Karen provides excellent patient service and care and is here to look after your needs.

Consultant Radiologist – Dr Mark Caplan MB ChB, DMRD, FRCR

Consultant Radiologist Dr Mark Caplan qualified from the University of Liverpool in 1984. He was appointed as a consultant radiologist at Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 1990.


Dr Caplan is a highly regarded and experienced musculoskeletal (MSK) radiologist and has developed a specialist interest in Magnetic Resonance Imaging(MRI) of orthopaedic conditions and also vascular ultrasound. Dr Caplan is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. Dr Caplan practices at the Spire Cheshire Hospital.

Dan Massey- Specialist Physiotherapy Consultant

Dan is a chartered physiotherapist who has expert knowledge and experience in managing patients with knee pain. He currently works as a lower limb extended scope practitioner for Warrington & Halton NHS Hospitals. 

Dan has a Master’s Qualification in Advanced Physiotherapy from Salford University and a diploma in Musculoskeletal Medicine. He has worked within amateur and professional sport having worked for Manchester United FC and Cheshire based Rugby Union Clubs.

An integral part of the team Dan helps us to develop the My Knee Doc physiotherapy protocols ensuring they are updated in line with the latest evidence-based best practice.

Paul Wells – Medical Accounts Manager

Paul is our accounts manager and a Director at Medhill Ltd. Paul has an extensive experience working in major accounts management and finance over the years. Paul prides himself on offering excellent patient service and is here to look after your needs and explain any queries you have regarding billing and fees.

Consultant Radiologist – Dr. Andrew Dunn

Dr. Andrew Dunn qualified from the University of Liverpool in 1998 and went on to complete radiology training in Liverpool in 2005. In 2006 Andrew completed a fellowship in musculoskeletal imaging from the University of Toronto before taking up a consultant position at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, where he is an honorary clinical lecturer.

Andrew has published widely in the musculoskeletal imaging literature and has written book chapters on sports injury and upper limb imaging.He regularly lectures nationally and internationally at both radiology and orthopaedic meetings. Andrew maintains an active role in education, teaching on the Mersey School of Radiology and the Northern Deanery Fellowship of Sports and Exercise Medicine training programmes.

Andrew provides imaging services to a number of Premier League and Championship football clubs and Super League rugby clubs in addition to other elite sports institutions throughout the northwest region and was a member of the imaging team for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
