Six Steps to Your New Knee

Are you struggling with knee pain? Have you been diagnosed with knee arthritis? Or Are you starting to get problems with your knee but are not sure what to do next?

It can be difficult and confusing to navigate the many NHS referral pathways. It can be difficult to work out what’s going on with your knee. It can be difficult to understand all of your treatment options.

Don’t worry I help many people like you in my clinic every week. Together we are able to come to a diagnosis, get the right tests and investigations, explore the treatments available and get you back doing the things you enjoy, hopefully with no knee pain…quickly.

That’s the main benefit of funding your own treatment. Quick and easy access to your own knee specialist, a fully trained consultant with access to the best investigations and treatments that are not always available in the NHS.

Should I choose NHS or private care?

Don’t get me wrong, the NHS offers a fantastic service, that’s free at the point of care. I’m a full time NHS consultant myself and I see the marvellous work the NHS does daily. But unfortunately, as we are all too aware the NHS is under extreme pressure and consequently clinics and surgical waiting lists get longer and longer as more resources are diverted to manage the increasing emergency work.

Getting the right diagnosis early can mean you can have more treatment options and potentially avoid the need for major surgery. Even if surgery is the right option for you then get it done at a time and place that suits you means that you can get on with your life and get back doing the things you enjoy such as those long walks in the countryside or having a kick about with your grandchildren in the garden sooner.

Your Six Steps to a Pain Free Knee

I founded the My Knee Doc specialist knee clinic to help people get the treatment they deserve. I ‘ve personally seen how life changing it can be to get rid of arthritis pain, and I’ve lost count of the number of times people tell me “I wish I’d come to see you 10 years ago”.

To help you make the right decision I’ve put together these six simple steps to guide you and hopefully give you some re-assurance of what’s involved when you come to see me in my clinic.

Step 1 – Simply download your FREE guide

I’ve put together some free guides that you can easily download on the My Knee Doc website. They’ll give you advice on how to manage your knee pain, information of knee injections and knee surgery. They’re completely free and there’s no obligation.

Step 2 - Arrange a consultation

I will be able to assess your knee and potentially give you a diagnosis there and then.

If you know that you want to see me then simply call and book an appointment. We can usually offer appointments within a week.

If you find it difficult to attend the clinic we also offer virtual or video appointments as well as a 10-minute telephone consultation.

Step 3 - Scans and X-rays

If needed I will be able to arrange for you to have an X-ray the same day in the clinic and a MRI scan within a couple of days.

If you’ve had scans or X-rays done elsewhere, don’t worry, we won’t need to repeat them. We can often ask for the images and reports to be transferred over so we have all the information we need without unnecessary duplication.

Step 4 - Decide on your treatment

Once we have all the information and test results back I’ll help you decide on the right treatment. We have many treatments ranging from physiotherapy and orthotics, specialist knee injections to state-of-the-art knee replacement surgery. I’ll only recommend treatments that I think are right for you and will make sure you have all the information and time you need to make your decision.

Step 5 – Book in for your treatment

We can often provide out-patient treatments such as joint injections on the same day! Some more specialist injections that are performed ultrasound guided within a week or two. If you need surgery then we can usually get you a date for your operation within a few weeks at a convenient time for you.

Step 6 – Follow-up

We always want to make sure that we deliver the best possible outcomes for you. We monitor and review all of our patient’s experience and treatment outcomes. We will arrange follow-up appointments to monitor your progress, we also allow you to keep track of your progress with on-line health and symptom questionnaires. We strive to keep improving and responding to your needs.
